The Trump administration’s commitment to stopping so-called “sex reassignment procedures” from being inflicted on minors is bearing fruit right here in New York.
On February 18, 2026, a Manhattan hospital called NYU Langone Health announced that it had discontinued its “sex reassignment procedures” program for kids.
“‘Given the recent departure of our medical director, coupled with the current regulatory environment, we made the difficult decision to discontinue our Transgender Youth Health Program,’” a spokesperson indicated.
In addition, Bayside Health in western Massachusetts has stated that it will cease providing “gender-affirming hormone treatments” to minors. Bayside Health also referenced the “evolving regulatory landscape” in its announcement.
The two hospitals’ comments about the “regulatory environment” and “regulatory landscape” refer to proposed rules issued by the Trump administration in December that would remove federal funds from hospitals that offer “transgender” procedures and services to minor patients. These proposed rules are designed to implement President Trump’s 2025 executive order on the same subject. Subpoenas from the Trump administration to hospitals with youth gender clinics, together with an FBI tip line allowing Americans to report “‘any hospitals, clinics, or practitioners’ that ‘mutilate’ children ‘under the guise of gender-affirming care’” have also helped to pressure hospitals to do the right thing. StatNews has reported that nationwide, 40 hospitals have gotten out of the “transing kids” business since President Trump’s second inauguration.
Regardless of the reasons—ideological, political, or financial—that a given hospital provides “transgender” services to minors, that hospital is unlikely to stop providing those services unless it receives external motivation to do so. The actions taken by the Trump administration have provided exactly such a motive, and they have done so by raising the possibility that hospitals could lose their federal funding streams if they continue “transing” kids. It is hoped that other hospitals, both in New York and around the country, will follow NYU Langone Health’s example and stop harming kids with gender dysphoria.
