Today is Primary Election Day in New York. Polls are open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Low-turnout elections are often decided by a very small share of eligible voters. That means your vote could have outsized influence in the primary.
If you’re unsure whether there’s a primary election in your area, contact your county Board of Elections. If you’re uncertain about your voter registration status or party affiliation, verify them before heading to the polls. Take time to learn about the candidates, review your ballot, and make your voice heard.
Just as importantly, encourage your family, friends, neighbors, and fellow church members to vote.
Remember that New York uses a closed primary system. Only voters registered with a political party may vote in that party’s primary election. Republicans choose Republican nominees, Democrats choose Democratic nominees, and unaffiliated or independent voters do not participate in either party’s nomination process. (It’s rare, but there might also be a Conservative or Working Families Party primary in your voting district.)
At New York Families Foundation, we believe the closed-primary approach helps preserve the integrity and accountability of political parties. Those who have chosen to affiliate with a party should be the ones to select its nominees and shape its future direction.
When you vote, you exercise stewardship over the liberties the Lord has entrusted to your care—so plan to vote today!
