Some of the most important decisions affecting children and families are made not in Washington or Albany, but in local school board meetings throughout New York.
Questions involving curriculum, parental involvement, student safety, religious liberty, and other matters affecting children regularly come before local boards of education. That makes principled, well-prepared school board leadership especially important.
New York Families Foundation wants to help identify school board members and candidates committed to honoring God, protecting children, and preserving parents’ rights.
If you know someone like that in your community, we encourage you to nominate them for the School Board Academy, a training program offered by the Family Policy Alliance Foundation.
Equipping School Board Leaders
The School Board Academy is designed for current school board members and candidates who want practical training grounded in a biblical worldview.
The program equips participants to better understand the responsibilities of school board service and to navigate many of the issues facing local schools today. Training covers topics such as school board governance, parliamentary procedure, constitutional and legal issues, curriculum standards, and parental rights.
The goal is straightforward: to help principled leaders serve their communities more clearly, more confidently, and more effectively.
Help Us Identify Leaders in New York
Someone in your community may already benefit from this kind of training.
Perhaps it is a current school board member who has shown courage in defending parental rights. Perhaps it is someone considering a future run for the board of education. Or perhaps it is a community leader who has already begun engaging with the issues facing local schools and families.
Do you know a school board member or candidate committed to honoring God, protecting children, and preserving parents’ rights?

New York Families Foundation partners with Family Policy Alliance Foundation and other state-based family policy organizations nationwide to educate, equip, and encourage Christian leaders for public service. School Board Academy is an important part of that broader effort.
A Growing National Effort
That commitment to school board leadership is growing nationwide as well.
This summer, Family Policy Alliance’s SoConCon gathering hosted its first School Board Leaders’ Summit, bringing together leaders from across the country who serve, support, and equip school board members. Plans are already underway to expand that effort at SoConCon 2027.

But the most important next step is much closer to home. Take a moment to consider the people in your church, community, and school district. Who has the courage, conviction, and character to serve? Who is already serving and would benefit from additional training? Who might be ready to step forward if someone simply encouraged them?
Help us identify the next generation of New York school board leaders.
